The thing that always bothered me about the "Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer" song (besides the stupid add-ons that bored children think are insanely clever) was the fact that the other reindeer don't want to have anything to do with Rudolph until they can use him in some way.
"Gee Rudolph, we treated you like garbage before, but now that you're the only one who can get us out of this mess, we think you're just great!"
Fuck that! it's like that piece of crap "Skater Boy" song by the no-talent Avril Lavigne, where the girl only regrets breaking up with a guy because he later becomes famous.
Forget you Avril, and forget those other jerk Reindeer.
well... not really.
Nofx still has a ton of integrity in my mind, and the recent Kiss-like (squeeze out every last cent) repressing of their albums is beyond their control. (Probably)
I guess it was only a matter of time before their old record labels realized that people REALLY like buying Nofx records, especially colored vinyl ones.
Some of the more rare ones regularly go for hundreds of dollars, so of course anyone who has the rights to a Nofx album has figured out they can pretty much press them again and again on a different color and it will sell like hot cakes.
"Maximum Rock and Roll", One of their old and absolutely horrible (in a funny, entertaining way) albums has been repressed in pretty much every color imaginable, making the people who have to have every variant buy 10 copies of an album they probably won't even listen to more than once. (if that) Before you ask, I have the orange one. I've listened to it once.
Epitaph is re-pressing all their Nofx vinyl too, a few of them coming in two different colors of course, for the extremists.
I guess it's easy to get cynical, but I'm actually glad these are in print again, I don't really care about getting first pressing of most things, I just like to have albums I like on vinyl, so keep 'em comin' fellas!
p.s. the photo is taken from this article.
I ended up cutting the drummer from Franz Ferdinand's hair on Tuesday so he put me on the guest list for the show. (thanks Paul!)
It's not a super exciting story or anything, but I didn't want to forget about it, hence this post.
It was a really good show, I'm glad I went.
It's not usually the type of band I would go see, but it was a lot of fun, they were spot on musically, and the Evaporators, who opened the show, were super entertaining as usual.
A funny side note: I mentioned this story to one of my regular clients and he said he'd seen a picture of them in the local paper and really liked the drummer's haircut, which in turn inspired him to get his hair cut in that style. crazy.
Akira is an awesome 1988 Japanese anime movie.
it's probably the only one that I really like.
Sure, there are some good ones with great visuals and neat characters, but I'm getting off topic here.
Unfortunately, I've heard that Leonardo DiCaprio is set to star in a live action version of Akira.
A live action version would not necessarily be a bad thing, but an American version will be totally lame.
Remember the Constantine movie? Blech!
Why do they always have to have to change things?
A Hollywood remake with an Asian actor might be OK, but this just seems insulting.
Anyway, check out the probable outcome below.
is the baby on the cover of Nirvana's "Nevermind", one of the most famous albums of all-time.
It must be strange for him, but even more annoying, is that for the rest of his life, he'll be re-creating a photo he doesn't even remember.
Here's the original of course:
Here he is at age 10 in 2001:
And again at age 17:
I guarantee he will be doing these until he's 80.
At least he gets to wear shorts in the recent ones.
It is pretty neat though, so I can see why we make the poor bastard keep doing it.
See ya in 10 Spencer!
2 Songs, both by the great Link Wray, with different names, but essentially the exact same.
Upon closer inspection, they both even appeared on the same album " 1963's "Jack the Ripper."
Did he think no one would notice?
I'm not dissing Link, and as far as I'm concerned he gets a free pass, I just think it's kinda funny.
Check 'em out below:
I first saw this movie when I was about 9 or 10 and it terrified me beyond the capacity for rational thought.
So much so that even as an adult and zombie movie fan, I was unable to bring myself to watch it.
Until a few days ago...
Wow, it's awesome!
I can see why it scared me, there are some genuinely freaky moments and some insanely graphic violence, but overall it's a fun movie with a great punk rock soundtrack.
It's also interesting to note that it is actually a sequel to the original "Night of the Living Dead" and even references it as a movie some of the characters have seen.
From Wikipedia: "When (John) Russo and George A. Romero parted ways after their 1968 film Night of the Living Dead, Russo retained the rights to any titles featuring Living Dead while Romero was free to create his own series of sequels, beginning with Dawn of the Dead."
Neat.
Anyway, you can watch the whole movie on YouTube, but you should probably just go buy it.
Well, I don't think there's much else to say, I just didn't want to be the only person in the world to not write a blog post about how awesome it is that our neighbours to the south gained back some much-needed credibility and put Obama in the White house.
They had me nervous, but in the end it all turned out.
Wow, I can't believe famous people keep allowing themselves to be photographed doing things they shouldn't be doing.
If you're a married 48 year old, (and one of the most famous people ever) you should not be hanging out with 19 year old girls in their bikinis.
Bono, if it was the '80's you may have gotten away with this, but you see, there's this new thing called the internet that allows EVERYONE IN THE ENTIRE WORLD to share their crap with each other!!!
Also, do you ever take those sunglasses off?
Anyway, Bono seems like an OK guy, I'm sure he was just helping those girls find their cat, or maybe they're starving and he was trying to feed them, or perhaps they had some ideas about how to get people to help forgive world debt or perhaps they were the only two girls who bought into that whole stupid project red thing.
I first heard about Pegboy in the early 90's when my friend's band did a cover of "Superstar."
I remember thinking what a great song it was and how excited I was to finally find the CD (Strong Reaction) months later.
Unfortunately, at the time I didn't really like it, and ended up trading it in.
I recently came across a copy of Strong Reaction on vinyl (with a free digital download!) and decided to pick it up.
Wow, it's awesome!
I don't know why I didn't appreciate it at the time, I guess I was into the really annoying sugary pop-punk stuff that I find so annoying now.
Anyway, I'm glad I rediscovered these guys. It's funny, most people who know Pegboy know them as "the guitarist from Naked Raygun's other band" but I'm only discovering Naked Raygun now. Look for them in a future post!
Anyway, apparently Pegboy still play the odd show in Chicago, hopefully they'll tour sometime in the future.
check out their MySpace here.
